Slowed down...

Well, I just waited about 10 minutes for the "New Post" tab to open so I can write my "weekly" (ha) update. That was enough time to pop a pot of popcorn the old fashioned way! Internet is slow here in Nampula... we've been out of touch more than expected, but all is well. Thanks for the prayers; we appreciate them! Last weekend, we headed out to Chocas Mar... Carrusca, Cabaceira Grande, and Ilha de Mozambique! Beach weekend. Totally tourist. Relaxing. Kathy wants to move there, but doesn't know what kind of job she can get at a beach. It has been fun having my aunt here for almost two weeks now. She has slowed her pace to fall into step with life in this corner of the world. It is lovely to see HERE through her eyes. Right now, she's in a hammock swing under the back-yard guava tree writing in her journal and reading the 3rd book in the lady-detective series by Alexander McCall Smith. Great books for a relaxing read shimmering with glimpses of the Africa

Visitor from another world...

My aunt Kathy arrived in Nampula on Saturday! Her trip was more than 24 hours of airplanes, overnight lay-overs, immigration desks, and customs officials. Sounds like she did very well on this journey to our world. We know God was watching over her because she arrived safe and sound, with all her luggage, and didn't pay extra for anything along the way! Our Nyungwe translation team and all the missionaries are having fun meeting Kathy. I'm 43... they expected my aunt to be, well, older than Kathy! So when she climbed a 100 year old cashew tree and jumped off the Tarzan rope swing, she got a reputation! (She didn't think anyone was watching, but I saw the kitchen ladies smiling from a distance.) Now she's looking for a job around here... "I can help with that..." waiting tables in the dining hall, painting the new mural in the office entry... helping at pre-school... shopping... That's the spirit, Kathy! Keep it up! Now, on her list of things to do: carry s

Hello, Nampula!

We have been in Nampula for over a week. The long trip went well and the road is much improved over 3 years ago! Right, 3 years since we have traveled to our mission headquarters in Mozambique! Long time-no see! We have enjoyed catching up with friends and colleagues working towards the same goals as we have in Mozambique: to see God's Word available to these people in their own languages! Our mission supports about 10 language projects here, including Nyungwe where we work. There are several other missions also doing Bible translation in Mozambique... plenty of languages to go around! What a treat to live, study, and work all within a single area! Our house has 2 bedrooms, and a complete kitchen. We eat lunch with the translation teams in the cafeteria: matapa, beans, rice cooked in coconut milk, fish, chicken are the variety of Nampula specialties we enjoy. I can have laundry done by the center staff. The kids are enjoying Morningstar school here as well; they have Miss Dancy, a
