Hello, Nampula!

We have been in Nampula for over a week. The long trip went well and the road is much improved over 3 years ago! Right, 3 years since we have traveled to our mission headquarters in Mozambique! Long time-no see!

We have enjoyed catching up with friends and colleagues working towards the same goals as we have in Mozambique: to see God's Word available to these people in their own languages! Our mission supports about 10 language projects here, including Nyungwe where we work. There are several other missions also doing Bible translation in Mozambique... plenty of languages to go around!

What a treat to live, study, and work all within a single area! Our house has 2 bedrooms, and a complete kitchen. We eat lunch with the translation teams in the cafeteria: matapa, beans, rice cooked in coconut milk, fish, chicken are the variety of Nampula specialties we enjoy. I can have laundry done by the center staff. The kids are enjoying Morningstar school here as well; they have Miss Dancy, a retired teacher from Alaska, and Miss Jarvis, a young teacher from the US also.

As for our work, Mikael and 3 of the translators finished the consultation of Genesis last week! Now the team and Mikael are involved in the Ephesians workshop. Genesis is long, but Ephesians is deep! The Nyungwe translations of Paul's letter should be finished by Oct. 23. Mary Breeze, a consultant from England is leading the workshop. She will make sure all the languages involved inthe workshop have good translations by the end.

I have been struggling with internet problems, so a few things have gotten held up. Nic to have a computer department right here to give us the support we need in that area! I have been able to catch up with a bit of record keeping with the personnel dept. Most importantly, I have been able to make a good start on the revision of the Nyungwe Primer -the book that teaches people to read in Nyungwe. Here in Nampula, I have Nancy Loveland right next door all day. She is the Literacy consultant and lanugage programs manager for our branch. We also have gotten some orientation from the finance department for the Nyungwe project funding.

So, if w get so much done in short time in Nampula, why don't we just live here? Only one answer to that question... the NYUNGWE PEOPLE DON'T LIVE HERE! All the trudging through the heat and dust of Tete serves a purpose... we must be where the people are who need God's Word. So, Tete is our place in the mission picture. We are needed there full-time to support the translation project. Happy there... Happy here. God's will is a good place to be!
