Off to the mountains again!
It isn't often that I'm on the computer at 6am, but this chilly morning I thought an update was in order before our trip. Besides Bible translation for the Nyungwe people in Mozambique, we also teach 4 weeks a year at a Bible College 4 hours away. Today is the day we head to Angonia district to visit the school. We enjoy the change from hot, dusty Tete each year... and the interaction with Mozambicans who are getting a higher education.
During our furlough year, we couldn't teach our Literacy Principles or Translation courses scheduled for first and second year students in the theology program at Hefsiba Christian Institute. This creates scheduling problems when we need to combine classes. So This year we have had to teach in shorter blocks and divide up the courses. For me it has worked out well. We wrote simple Bible stories last week in 5 languages from central Mozambique! Hopefully a bit more knowledge about writing in Mozambican languages, special needs of new readers, and how to set up a literacy class at your church will make a difference some day!
We have been home in Tete again for this week. I needed to check on the building of the guard house on the Hill and Mikael needed to work on a few admin things around here. Now, off we go to the land of strawberries and potatoes, cold mornings and chilly toes, green grass and flowers, good friends and lots of tea and hot chocolate! David and Hilary Ker live up at Hefsiba... our long-time partners in Nyungwe-land moved to Vila Ulongwe and have responsibilities at the Bible school now. Just another reason we like visiting Angonia!
Next week in Vila, we meet with a representative from "The Seed Company" a division of Wycliffe that provides funding to locally run Bible translation programs. Nyungwe Bible translation has been moving toward local admin and ownership for years. There is enough structure in place to warrant Seed Company funding. This will ensure that the translation will have enough funding to operate when missionaries are gone. A big blessing to the translators and Nyungwe people.
I will listen in of the meetings, but also hope to get busy revising the grammar notes and primer we worked on in May. Also, broadband has come to Vila and my camera is returning from the repair shop! Look forward to some updates and pictures soon!
