Only 5 more days

Mikael is into his second week of Mozambique adventure. In the first week, he was in the capital city, Maputo, in the very south of the country. Last Friday, he flew up to Tete, the province that is on the "other side" of Malawi... about 1000 miles north of Maputo. This is our "home" in Africa. The armpit of Mozambique as some would say. It isn't exactly pretty, but, it is where we are called to live and love it, for better or worse!

Mikael's trip is somehow typical of a two-week period in Mozambique. A conference was organized at the university, but there was not much notice for participants to prepare ahead of time. There were people to see and networks to develop that will definitely benefit the project in the future. He made new friends, and met many old ones. He found out that our car wasn't kept exactly where it was planned to be stored, and the keys weren't with the person they should have been with... but everything was safe and found. The good old HiLux is on the road again!

Sometime tomorrow, Mikael will head out to our own plot of land overlooking the Zambezi River from a rocky outcropping between a market and a cemetary (over a mile from either). He is supposed to take the pictures that I would take if I were there. This never really works out like I planned, but sometimes it's better. He has to run around fixing things that shouldn't be broken and meeting people that need to be met. Making it possible to bring all of us back with him in a month.

After he sounded depressed when he thought that he wouldn't find the keys... or that the car wouldn't start... or that the guy who was charging the battery wasn't there when he went to pick it up... or that he has to buy a new battery... or that it was so very hot... and his shoe was falling apart (I didn't make that up!) He said, "It feels good to be back here."

*sigh*
He said that it is good to be back. That is God working in the situation, because Mikael doesn't really like things that require a quick change of plans. He isn't comfortable making quick decisions (except for choosing who he would marry). But, if he is where God wants him to be, "it is good to be here". That's why I married him... because he is willing to be where God wants him to be. Usually, I get to be there too!

But, this week I'm sure that I'm in the right place too. Parties and sick kids and visits and packing and meetings and car repairs and realtors and cake and broken bicycles and borrowed video camaras. This week it is sunny in Skövde. The leaves are red and gold and the sky is blue. The ground is dry, but the grass is still green. Everyone is giving away apples from their own trees. Everyone wants us to come over for one last meal or fika (a Swedish excuse to get together for coffee). I always like an excuse to get together!

Only 5 more days till Mikael is back...
